The UW Speech and Hearing Clinic provides evaluation and early intervention services for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children who may be developing speech and language skills more slowly or differently than expected.
Early support can help build a strong foundation for communication, learning, and social interaction. We work closely with families to support communication during everyday routines and activities.
What We Offer
Services are individualized and may include:
- Evaluation of early speech and language development
- Strategies to support communication during daily routines (e.g., play, meals, reading)
- Coaching for parents and caregivers to promote communication growth
- Support for early social communication, play, and interaction
We also offer programs such as Watch Me Grow, which provide structured opportunities for children and caregivers to learn and practice communication strategies together. If you are interested in learning more about the Watch Me Grow program or securing services, please contact Kathryn Basco and Liz Delsandro.
Our Approach
We use a family-centered, play-based approach that focuses on building communication skills in natural, meaningful contexts. Caregivers are active participants in sessions and are supported in using strategies at home.
Who May Benefit
Early intervention services may be helpful for children who:
- Are not yet talking or have limited vocabulary
- Have difficulty understanding language
- Show delays in communication or social interaction
- Would benefit from additional support during early development
