Recent SLP Graduate Travels to Africa to Train Volunteers

Rebecca Willer, UW-Madison 2021 M.S. SLP graduate, along with another speech-language pathologist from Wisconsin (Kara Darling), led trainings in the areas of feeding/swallowing and communication in Malawi, Africa to over 20 local volunteers. Trainings focused on teaching volunteers how to modify diets and use feeding strategies to maximize feeding efficiency and safety, in addition to using low-tech AAC communication boards to communicate. Rebecca volunteered with a non-profit organization, Kingdom Workers. The organization provides skilled training in these areas to local volunteers so they can in turn deliver home-based care services to local children.
