We congratulate Dr. Ruth Litovsky on receiving the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) Silver Medal in Psychological and Physiological Acoustics for her contributions to understanding binaural hearing and the perceptual consequences of providing bilateral cochlear implants. She is the first woman to receive the Silver Medal in Psychological and Physiological Acoustics.

The ASA Silver Medal is presented to individuals for contributions to the advancement of science, engineering, or human welfare through the application of acoustic principles, or through research accomplishments in acoustics.

Dr. Litovsky’s research lab explores how humans understand speech and localize sound in everyday listening environments, studies adults who are deaf and use bilateral cochlear implants, studies the development of binaural hearing in typically-developing children, and measure the emergence of spatial hearing skills and non-auditory skills in children who use cochlear implants. More information about her research efforts can be found at the Binaural Hearing and Speech Lab website.

Congratulations Ruth!
