Audiology outreach recently returned to Porchlight! We are proud to be able to volunteer our services for the Michele Tracy Eye and Ear MEDiC clinic. MEDiC aims to improve the health of the underserved in the Madison area while enhancing the education of UW-Madison health profession students. AuD students Ally Seehafer, Regan Bolt, Serena Hellmann, Liz Cooke, and Jenny Lucke provided hearing and middle ear screenings to Porchlight residents with audiology clinical professor Melanie Buhr-Lawler. AuD students worked alongside medical and pharmacy students to provide care and discuss cases.
The goal of the Michele Tracy Clinic is to provide educational and emotional support for the residents of Porchlight so that they can assume a stronger role in meeting their individual health care needs. The Michele Tracy Project began in 1997 as a collection of preventive health clinics designed to benefit the residents of the Porchlight community. Porchlight maintains 102 transitional housing units that are made available to low-income adults at reduced rates.
