Members of the Connor & Ciucci Research Group recently shared their current work with students at East High School’s Science Expo! The Science Expo, run by UW’s Antiracism Learning and Action in Neuroscience (ALAN) group, aims to provide high school students with the opportunity to learn what scientists do and talk to researchers about their identities and pathways in STEM. Ultimately, the goal is to help support students, particularly those from historically underrepresented backgrounds, develop a sense of belonging and navigating potential future careers in the sciences.
This is the third year of the Science Expo, and the second year the Connor & Ciucci Research Group has participated. Students who visited with members of the lab group were able to learn about what translational research is, what a Speech Pathologist does, the wide variety of experiments the Connor & Ciucci Research Group conducts, gain hands-on microscope experience, and chat about the unique science pathways/backgrounds of each participant.
Thank you to Nicole Schaen-Heacock (Doctoral Candidate; PI: Ciucci), Andy Hoerst (Research Specialist; PI: Connor), Jeff Ockuly (Research Specialist; PI: Ciucci), Dr. Gaurav Singhal (Postdoctoral Fellow; PIs: Glass/Connor), and Wes Hibbard (Research Specialist; PI: Connor) for engaging with our future scholars!
