ASHA Capitol Hill Day

Advocacy in action! UWHSC Clinical Professors, Kim Caul and Rachel Lee had the opportunity to visit Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to advocate for audiologists, SLPs, and the people we serve, as part of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Committee of Ambassadors.

They had a whirlwind of a day, meeting with the offices of three senators, including WI’s Senator Tammy Baldwin, and two House Representatives, including Rep. Scott Fitzgerald from WI’s District 5. They also had the opportunity to meet with legislators across state lines, working with other ASHA Ambassadors.

They asked for support on several issues, with the ultimate goal of increasing access to the important services that audiologists and speech-language pathologists provide. These include multiple bills for access to services for Medicare beneficiaries, including permanent telehealth coverage and direct access to audiology services.

Additionally, they advocated for the SHARE Act, which will allow for the Audiology Speech Language Pathology Interstate Compact to become operational and streamline licensure.
