
Rebecca Alper, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, recently had the work of the Language, Literacy, and Learning Lab featured by PBS. The article and video showcases their work on improving the language, academic, and health outcomes of at-risk children. The number of children with speech and language impairments has grown in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving teachers and researchers struggling to provide more support for kids and caregivers.
Research in the Language, Literacy, and Learning Lab, directed by Rebecca Alper, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, focuses on improving the language, academic, and health outcomes of at-risk children through family-centered early language and literacy intervention. Early language skills are critical for children’s academic, social, vocational, and health difficulties across the lifespan. Family-centered intervention is an evidence-based and efficient mechanism to support children’s language skills. However, interventions demonstrate large individual differences in outcomes and barriers to scalability.
