Click on “Scholarships”, to your left, and you will find that the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers a “Loon Fellowship Award” once yearly to a graduate student who “…fosters social skills, communication, and relationship building within the graduate program.” The back story of this Award is remarkable. In 1979 twelve entering graduate students, seeking clinical degrees in either speech-language pathology or audiology, developed and nurtured a bond that has lasted to the current day. This group of women has held reunions every five years over the past 33+ years, and ten years ago decided to make a commitment to our field and our Department by establishing The Loon Foundation to fund the Award described above. Now the Loons plan to celebrate 10 years of The Loon Foundation by holding their reunion here in Madison, with an informal get-together at the downtown Nitty Gritty (223 N. Francis Street—corner of Francis & Johnson St.) on July 18, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. The Loons will provide appetizers, beer, and wine. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Carol at CarolC8@comcast.net. Come and meet old and new faculty and friends!
