Investigating the Clinical Feasibility of Discourse Analysis
Discourse analysis for individuals with neurogenic communication disorders could help focus clinical efforts on the types of outcomes most desired by these clients (returning to work/education, engaging in discussion and debate, participating in hobbies and leisure activities, building relationships, etc.). Despite the existence of hundreds of discourse analysis measures published in the research literature, discourse assessment in clinical practice is rare. In this presentation we will discuss an ongoing study seeking to determine the feasibility, acceptability, and reliability of one discourse analysis approach (main concept analysis) paired with standard or enhanced training materials for practicing speech-language pathologists (SLPs) to use in practice.
