Musicians’ Hearing Program
The UWSHC offers a custom evaluation and hearing conservation package for musicians. The musician’s hearing evaluation includes assessment of hearing at inter-octave frequencies, otoacoustic emissions testing, and assessment of change in hearing if previous tests are available. The hearing conservation package includes an individualized conversation about hearing conservation in a music environment as well as the selection and fitting of custom musician’s (“concert”) earplugs. This program is offered at a discounted price to students and faculty in the UW-Madison School of Music.

Hearing Protection
UWSHC audiologists select, order and fit comfortable, universal and custom-made earplugs for use in many different work and recreational environments. Patients use these earplugs for noisy work environments, yard work, hunting, sleeping, and more. All of the UWSHC’s custom earplugs can be ordered in a variety of colors.
Musicians Earplugs
The purpose of musicians earplugs is to preserve the fidelity of the musical environment while providing adequate hearing protection. The UWSHC audiologists take impressions, select, and fit custom musicians earplugs for musicians. Individuals who spend time in loud places with music also benefit from musicians earplugs, such as regular concert-goers or employees of loud bars and restaurants. Audiologists at the UWSHC also take ear impressions for custom in-the-ear monitors.
Swim Plugs
The UWSHC fits custom swimming earplugs for individuals of all ages. These are designed to keep water out of the ears while swimming or bathing.
