At the UW Speech and Hearing Clinic, our audiologists help patients find hearing technology that fits their hearing needs, lifestyle, and budget. We provide personalized consultations, hearing aid fittings, follow-up care, and repair services. Our goal is to help you hear your best and feel confident using your hearing technology.
Hearing Aid Consultations
Patients interested in hearing aids receive individualized recommendations based on their hearing test results, communication needs, and lifestyle. Our audiologists review available technology options and help patients choose devices that best meet their needs.
Hearing Aid Fittings and Follow-Up Care
After hearing aids are selected, patients return in 2–3 weeks for a fitting appointment. During this visit, the devices are programmed for the patient’s hearing loss and clinicians provide guidance on how to use and care for them.
All hearing aid patients receive a 45-day adjustment period with follow-up visits to fine-tune the devices and ensure they are working well. New hearing aids include a manufacturer warranty that covers repairs and service during the warranty period.
Hearing Aid Repairs and Services
We offer hearing aid repairs and maintenance services for devices purchased at our clinic or elsewhere. Some repairs can be completed in our clinic, while others are sent to the manufacturer. We work with many hearing aid companies to provide comprehensive service options.
Assistive Listening Devices
In addition to hearing aids, we offer demonstrations of assistive listening devices (ALDs) that can improve hearing in specific situations. Examples include telephone and television amplifiers, personal listening devices, FM systems, and alerting devices such as amplified alarm clocks or smoke alarms. Our audiologists can help determine which devices may be helpful and assist with ordering technology.
Over-the-Counter (OTC) Hearing Devices
Our clinic can provide guidance for individuals considering over-the-counter (OTC) hearing devices. While these devices cannot always be reprogrammed by our clinicians, we can help determine whether an OTC device is appropriate for your hearing needs and verify that the fitting is suitable.
