Sydney is a certified speech-language pathologist and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders under the mentorship of Dr. Katie Hustad. She earned her B.A. from Wayne State University and her M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from Case Western Reserve University. Before pursuing her doctorate, Sydney practiced clinically at the Waisman Center in the Communication Aids and Systems Clinic and the multidisciplinary Neuromotor Disorders Clinic, specializing in Augmentative and Alternative Communication evaluation and intervention. Her research examines speech and communication development in children with complex speech and motor profiles, including cerebral palsy and rare genetic syndromes. Her dissertation focuses on quantifying speech and communication abilities in children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy to better define functional ability profiles in this population.
