In the Michele Tracy Eye and Ear MEDiC clinic, UWSHC Au.D students provide hearing health screenings at Porchlight under the supervision of a licensed audiologist. MEDiC is a student-run organization that leads six free health clinics throughout the Madison area. MEDiC aims to improve the health of the underserved in the local area while enhancing the education of UW Madison health profession students. Au.D. students work alongside ophthalmology, medical, and pharmacy students to provide care and discuss cases.
The goal of the Michele Tracy Clinic is to provide educational and emotional support for the residents of Porchlight so that they can assume a stronger role in meeting their individual health care needs. The Michele Tracy Project began in 1997 as a collection of preventive health clinics designed to benefit the residents of the Porchlight community. Porchlight maintains 102 transitional housing units that are made available to low-income adults at reduced rates.
