The Dewane Neurorehabilitative Pro Bono Clinic is a student-coordinated clinic led by University of Wisconsin-Madison Doctor of Physical Therapy Program students with faculty advisement. The clinic treats underserved or under/uninsured patients who need physical, occupational, and speech therapy interventions in neurological rehabilitation.
SLP students learn to provide evaluation and treatment services to individuals with neurological rehabilitation needs in a team setting. Students participate in interdisciplinary meetings to determine how cross-discipline care can best serve client needs.
“At the heart of Pro Bono is community. This experience not only gifted me with strong and lasting mentor and peer relationships, but gave me valuable insight and firsthand experience in the power of multidisciplinary collaboration. Having the opportunity to connect with like-minded people on a mission to serve our community impacted my outlook on rehab in ways that are hard to describe and truly invaluable. The people that make up Pro Bono – mentors, students, patients and their families – are what foster community and make this space so special. Pro Bono gave me a unique opportunity to grow in my clinical competence and leadership skills, and I know I am a better clinician because of the experiences this clinic has granted me.” – First Year SLP Student
“Being a second-year mentor at Pro Bono is a rewarding experience on all sides. Building relationships between clients, first-years, faculty, my fellow mentors, and across disciplines made for a fun Friday clinic experience. It’s also a great opportunity to see yourself grow as a clinician and leader.” – Second Year SLP Student
