Research Statement

Dr. Douglas has a split appointment between the Department of Communicative Disorders and the Waisman Center. At the Waisman Center, Jon provides family centered care for children with disabilities, including hearing loss, cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, PDD, and other developmental disabilities. He provides audiological services for the Developmental Disabilities Clinic, Cerebral Palsy Clinic, Genetics Clinic, as well as providing consulting services at Central Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled—a residential program for children and adults with significant developmental delays and medical conditions. At Goodnight Hall, Jon provides diagnostic hearing evaluations & hearing aid services for children and adults and he participates in Head Start Audiology Screening for Dane County.

Recent Publications

  • Discipline training coordinator for audiology in the Maternal Child Health-Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (MCH LEND) at the Waisman Center.
  • Awarded the LEND Pediatric Audiology Training Grant at the Waisman Center to expand and augment pediatric audiology training for students at UW-Madison.
  • Developed the “Plain Clothes Clinic” to provide newborn hearing screening follow-up, diagnostic Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing, hearing aid fittings, and resources for families in underserved areas of Wisconsin, including the Amish and Mennonite communities.
