Prosem Lecture: Researching Sex Differences & Neuroscience as an SLP
November 7 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Jessica Grittner, MS, CCC-SLP
University of Minnesota Medical School
Rehabilitation Science Program
Topic: Researching Sex Differences & Neuroscience as an SLP
There are many areas of clinical care that not only lack an evidence base for treatment, they are also missing basic information about physiology. Jessica Grittner will speak to the important role of clinician bench scientists, and how clinical expertise can inform animal research. Clinicians working in basic science help to fill foundational knowledge gaps, and Ms. Grittner’s talk will cover two projects that are working to fill gaps for the treatment of women and children. The first project aims to illuminate the important role of estrogen in respiratory physiology, and the second project was directly inspired by swallowing impairments seen in children with diaphragm hemiparalysis.
