Prosem Lecture: Motor Performance in Children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech

April 26, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Presenter: Jenya Iuzzini-Seigel, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Assistant Professor and Director of the Communication, Movement, and Learning Lab, Marquette University
Topic: Motor Performance in Children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech

Research suggests that over half of children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) also evidence co-occurring fine and gross motor deficits; unfortunately, motor impairments are highly underdiagnosed and therefore, often untreated in this population. Recent results from a large parent survey reveal the negative functional impact of motor impairments on activities of daily living for children with CAS. Implications for long-term fitness, health and learning outcomes will be discussed.
