April 5, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Presenter: Monique T. Mills, Ph.D., Associate Professor, University of Houston
Topic: Assessing Black Children’s Narrative Language: Bringing Together Multiple Methods and Multiple Perspectives

The current study addresses educational dis parities and is designed to identify culturally-fair measures of narrative language—a skill that predicts students’ academic outcomes in literacy. We examine ways in which the language of school-age African American students is evaluated informally and formally, thereby improving academic assessment of this group

Funding source: Women of Color Coalition Stimulus Research Grant, University of Houston Cross College Seed Grant, The Ohio State University
