Hearing and Donuts (Brain and Bagels) Seminar
November 8, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 9:30 am
Presenter: Xin Huang, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Neuroscience, UW-Madison
Topic: Natural Scene Statistics of Depth and Motion and the Neural Basis Underlying Image Segmentation
I will first describe our recent work on the statistics of depth and visual motion in natural scenes that are pertinent to figure-ground segregation. I will then use the neural representation of multiple speeds of visual motion as an example to demonstrate the possibility that the visual system may exploit the regularity in natural scene statistics to achieve image segmentation. Finally, I will change gear a bit and discuss some planned future experiments on exploring the neural mechanisms underlying image segmentation.
