Topic: Hearing Loss in the Covid Era
Sudden sensorineural hearing losses can be devastating and life altering. Because the causes are unknown, they are often considered idiopathic. Clinicians have speculated about a multitude of pathologic mechanisms including inflammation and toxicity within the cells in the human body (cytotoxicity). During onset of viruses like SARS-Cov-2, a strain of coronavirus, the world suddenly saw common reports of sudden hearing losses due to symptomatic COVID. Additionally, hearing related complications attributed to COVID-19 vaccinations have become widespread in the public sphere despite unclear evidence. This talk will present current evidence and consensus defining the state-of-the-science regarding these rapidly evolving clinical conditions.
