Hearing and Donuts (Brain and Bagels) Seminar
February 25 @ 8:30 am - 9:30 am
Presenter: Ben Parrell, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders
Topic: Using Alterations to Auditory Feedback to Study Speech Motor Planning
Auditory feedback about our own speech provides a critical tool to help guide and maintain the accuracy of our speech over time. In the extreme, post lingual hearing loss can lead to widespread impairments in phonation, resonance, and articulation. Here, I will present recent work from my lab showing how real-time experimental perturbations to speaker’s auditory feedback can be used to study not only the articulatory execution of speech but also the speech motor planning process.
