Hearing technology is an important part of managing hearing loss, but communication strategies and support can also make a meaningful difference. The UW Speech and Hearing Clinic offers services designed to help individuals with hearing loss improve communication skills and confidence in everyday listening situations.
Aural Rehabilitation (AR)
Aural rehabilitation services help individuals with hearing loss develop strategies to improve communication and listening skills.
These services may include:
- Learning communication strategies for challenging listening situations
- Improving listening and speech understanding skills
- Counseling and education for individuals with hearing loss and their families
- Support for adjusting to hearing aids or other hearing technology
Aural rehabilitation services are tailored to each person’s needs and may be offered in individual or group sessions.
Storytime Friends
Storytime Friends is a week-long summer camp designed to support language and literacy development for children with hearing loss in a fun, play-based environment.
Each day, children explore a new story and learn related vocabulary and language concepts through activities such as crafts, games, and interactive storytelling. The camp also encourages communication, social interaction, and self-advocacy skills.
